The low-poly look is a recently trending art style that involves digital 3D modelling to create objects and environments that have intentionally large, noticable polygons. The result is an interesting effect that references the early days of computer modelling, though with better lighting and shading techniques.
 
This trend may in fact be a reaction to photo-realistic 3D modelling. And I can say for myself that, having created photo-realistic images, making the switch to low-poly modelling feels refreshing. I now have the freedom to express ideas through my artwork more rapidly, without giving a thought to detail in textures and such.
